Why Linux users make their desktops look like other Operating Systems

I came across an interesting thread on the Ubuntu Forums this morning. The thread is related to why many Linux users try their damnedest to make their desktop resemble other operating systems. I’ll even admit that I’ve done it a few times myself — I used to go for the Mac OS X look. However, after years on the Linux desktop I think I’ve finally developed my own desktop look that does not resemble any particular OS. Head over to the Ubuntu Forums and check out the thread, it’s pretty interesting. Any of you ever go for the Other OS look out there? Please share in the comments.

I’m shure it is because of one of these 3 reasons:
1. Because they are used to work with Windoze interface and try to resemble it on their Linux OS or just to make easier for someone in their family to use….
2. Because they are fanboys (unfortunately there are lots of Apple fanboys out there and now are also coming Vista fanboys ;/)
3. Because Linux is the most powerfull system and allows you to completely make your desktop anyway you can, but…. most people out there lack of creativity and instead of makeing their own look just try to imitate others…
The guy who started the topic in Ubuntu Forum is just saying bullshit… Linux is not ugly… The look of Linux is much more beautifoul than any Mac or Vista out there… There is no Mac or Vista or any other desktop like Enlightenment for example or like a well themed KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox, FVWM, AfterStep, Window Maker ;) Just make it the way you like ;)
If you go to my blog (it’s in portuguese, but there is an screenshots menu in the right) you can see some screenshots of Fluxbox, Enlightenment, Window Maker etc… Even a screenshot of Gnome Panel in Fluxbox or KDE Kicker in Enlightenment ;)

i love my ubuntu but i do agree it needs an image to compete.
Looks alone attract a lot of people.
just look at the MAC… thousands of users
it’s just looks, not much more.. :/
