When dual-booting and you don’t want to lose files…
Just make sure that you have shutdown the other OS properly before you switch to the next one. I’ve been alternating between Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux these days that I sometimes forget that I come from ‘hibernate’ or suspend sometimes. I just boot up my laptop and choose on the GRUB menu which one it should be. I’ve been having problems with missing files or corrupted files.
I talked about it with one of the sys ads here. He said that my problem is that when I put my laptop into hibernate, it’s in an inconsistent state. There are files in the cache and when I go to switch to another OS, those cached files are gone or moved elsewhere.
I have to read some stuff about the topic but I haven’t found much yet. I might be looking at the wrong thing though. Well, whichever it is, I know now that I really must remind myself that there is no other way to go about working on my files except to shutdown first then boot up with the other OS.
Tough. Maybe when I leave the client’s office, I should remember to shutdown or something. I must also read up more about the matter because my work is becoming more and more crucial or so I think.
