What happens when you compile?

by Clair on October 8th, 2008

LinuxJournal has started a series on “Examining the Compilation Process” for its readers. I am actually one who needs to learn about these things so that I will not be afraid of compiling anymore.

The steps do not sound very difficult. At least from this article. This is what it says: “the compilation process is broken down into 4 steps: preprocessing, compilation, assembly, and linking.”

From this article, we are shown an example of a file which is compiled. What are the commands that are being executed are mentioned as well. The thing is that we still have to see the pattern of preprocessing.

The article also mentions the other files that are needed for such an endeavor. Good thing. We need to find out how it’s like to compare in real life.

Such a setup might be tough to arrange. But if he still needs us… If it’s moving time, cleaning up ang etc :P Maybe things like this would make sound something =_=
