The Free World: ODOS - Linux Help
Today’s One-Day-One-Site is Linux Help.
First impression? Popups…grrrr. And not just any popups - I got one for a registry cleaner. Dude…you run a Linux site. Having Windows ads pop up is just plain old bad form.
Despite that, the site looks pretty active and it has a lot of good stuff on it. The forums aren’t huge, but they all have recent posts in them so it looks like it’s a living site which is much more helpful than some of the abandoned forums out there. In the last forum there’s even a poll asking what distro you hate. That’s a new one - I’ve seen lots of polls one what distros are liked, but never one on the most hated. I have to laugh to see that my current fave, Linspire, is heading the list of the most hated distro. Ah well, my laptop suspends that’s all I care about :)
Grrr…more popups when I click the download link. One at the beginning is annoying enough, but to have them popping up during my entire visit is too much.
However, the review must go on…
The downloads section contains ISOs complete with MD5 checksums for a small subset of distros. All the popular ones are there such as Fedora, Debian, Suse, and Slackware and some of the more advanced ones such as Gentoo and Arch as well.
There’s a reviews section that contains user-contributed reviews on Fedora, Red Hat, Slackware and one other one that escapes me now, and a pretty decent page on newbie command-line commands useful for getting around a system.
Despite the popups (man, I HATE popups on Linux sites!) Linux Help is worth a visit if you’re in need of a guide, review, or have a question.
Enjoy!
