Songbird supports DRM and the iPod

Don’t kill the messenger here, but the latest preview from Songbird appears to have DRM support. DRM is only supported in the Windows edition (no DRM support for Linux, yet). Why are we talking about DRM and Windows at New Linux User? Well, Songbird is open source and appears to be crossing the line into relatively unchartered territory (native open source support for proprietary formats). Songbird has also added iPod support for its Linux edition. You can learn about all the Songbird 0.2.5 features at the Songbird homepage:

More specifically, Songbird 0.2.5 adds support for playing media using the QuickTime or Windows Media Player engines. These, in turn, support playback of DRM tracks.
