Some notes about using Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon

by Clair on October 25th, 2007

If you have a Broadcom driver for wifi, it might not always work nicely. Then again, check with your sys ad if it’s the network that is problematic. In my case, there are times when I find it difficult to connect via wifi.

The Compiz settings: You have three choices. You could choose none. Or you could choose maximum effects. I have chosen none. My laptop hangs sometimes so I’d rather have none. My laptop is a Lenovo C3000 N100.

Test hibernate and suspend thoroughly. I think that both hibernate and suspend on my laptop. It’s just that I must note if there are quirks, according to the wiki.

Trying out Epiphany was a good move. For some reason, Firefox seems to keep on hanging or crashing so a different browser is a good choice.

When installing Desmume, you could try checking first if you have OpenGL. I have mine disabled, apparently. I must fix it later so I could play a game or two.

If you have other concerns about Gutsy Gibbon, you might as well try emailing various Linux groups and post your thoughts on the forums.
