Some Linux notes
Here are some things I’ve learned and from time to time I am reminded of them:
- It’s easier when all your filenames are in lowercase, without spaces between them.
- There is tab completion on the command line, so do not be afraid to use it.
- There are applications for almost everything you need. It’s just that there are times when you can’t get packages for the distro you’re using. You might have to build from source and there usually are instructions to follow.
- When in doubt, use the man command to read the manual.
- Changing the desktop environment you are using isn’t a bad thing. Actually, it might be the best thing you could do while you’re at it. There are times when the defaults do suffice but you could be more efficient with others.
- Using Linux could be fun, as long as you forget whatever it is that intimidates you.
- Look for the Linux tools you need in order for you to be efficient. Else, you might end up more frustrated than productive.
Are there some Linux notes you’d like to share with me? Please feel free to do so! :D

I would complement item #2 by saying “Don’t be afraid of the command line”. And item #3 by saying “Don’t be afraid of compile from source”.
But my favourite is: “Don’t blame Linux for the errors in the distribution you are using”. Some distros are better than others, or more compatible. If one is not working for you, don’t blame linux, just try another one.
Good notes :-D

Thanks, alvlin! I also like what you said:

Again, thanks for sharing that one!

I’d hate to be ascerbic but I guess if I had a useful thing to share, it would be RTFM. :)
Jk. But you should.
Also, don’t be afraid to try different distros from time to time.
Master one and experiment with others.
