Poll results: Why do Linux users go back to using Windows?
And the results are in:
- I need my games! - 43 (48% of all votes)
- There aren’t any applications I could use in my line of work. - 5 (6% of all votes)
- I couldn’t figure anything about Linux, even with the graphical user interface. - 6 (7% of all votes)
- I am wrong in the head - 5 (6% of all votes)
- Not enough time to fully understand Linux - 9 (10% of all votes
- Craniotomy - 5 (6% of all votes)
- DVD CODECs, & scanner setup not included - 3 (3% of all votes)
- Default Install on new system - 3 (3% of all votes)
- Graphics drivers / dual monitors - 3 (3% of all votes)
- Steve Ballmer is hot! - 2 (2% of all votes)
- Drugs, obviously - 4 (4% of all votes)
- Photoshop - 1 (1% of all votes)
Considering though that some of them might be related, I’d have to re-organize the results as follows:
- Games - 43 votes
- Applications needed - total: 6 votes
- There aren’t any applications I could use in my line of work. - 5 votes
- Photoshop - 1 vote
- I couldn’t figure anything about Linux, even with the graphical user interface. - 6 votes
- Hardware issues - total: 6 votes
- DVD CODECs, & scanner setup not included - 3
- Graphics drivers / dual monitors - 3
- I am wrong in the head - 5 votes
- Default Install on new system - 3 votes
- Not enough time to fully understand Linux - 9 votes
- Other reasons - total: 11 votes
- Craniotomy - 5
- Steve Ballmer is hot! - 2
- Drugs, obviously - 4
Most of the poll votes are for games so that implies that many of you are quite hooked on to games that run on Windows and might be having difficulties playing it on Linux, be it on Wine or natively, in case you’ve tried.
As for applications, it could be really difficult to look for those that might suit your work. It depends on how badly you depend on the applications, I guess. But as a friend said, there’s nothing quite like SPSS on Linux or even running it on Wine is a pain.
Dual monitors could be a problem, too, if you don’t have any idea on how to do the setup. You need to edit the Xorg.conf file and add some lines that would indicate the total width of the monitor if you want an extended monitor set-up.
For now, these are the poll results for August. I am still thinking about what to ask for the month of September. :)
