Pandora the Linux gaming handheld console
If you love games so much, why not keep an eye on Pandora? It’s the size of a DS but it has a QWERTY keyboard and gaming buttons. It will have a customized Debian-based Linux distro and so you could expect emulators to work on it as well as browsers.
It’s exciting because you could have the following emulated:
- Atari 2600, 7800, 5200, and Lynx
- Nintendo NES, SNES, Gameboy, and GBA
- Sega Master System and Genesis
- NEC PCEngine (TurboGrafx-16)
- SNK NeoGeo, NeoGeo Pocket, and Pocket Color
- Sony Playstation [2]
- Nearly any other console which predates the Playstation for which an open-source emulator exists
And it seems like there’s much more you could do than use it for gaming because of the QWERTY-based keyboard. Instant blogging! There’s also a video of mplayer on Pandora so it really looks interesting to me. Another cool factor: it says on the FAQs that you should probably be able to change the window manager/environment of it ;)
It’s expected to be released in June/July.
