LXDE - another lightweight desktop environment
A link to the LXDE site was on del.icio.us and I just had to click it because in this day and age, I sometimes get tired of eye candy. I like pretty desktop environments, surely but there are times when I just need to sit back and relax with simple and straightforward user interfaces. Here comes LXDE to people like me.
It uses Openbox as its window manager and other components like Leafpad (a text editor), Xarchiver, PCManFM as a file manager and other nifty apps to make the desktop experience great even for those who are using older machines like those on Pentium II processors and 128MB RAM. Its said to run moderate to fast on such machines. If you’re getting sick and tired of Windows 98 on your older machines install Debian and this desktop environment to make it snazzier ;)
The screenshots show that the look of this environment is pretty new so you won’t feel like you’re being very boring by installing something lightweight like this.

I like it. Its very polished looking. It should be a great addition to DSL and other thumb drive based distros or if you just want to save on some resources. I agree it does not look light weight at all.
