Linux news bits: OLPC give one, get one; Skype for Linux 2.0 beta

by Clair on November 12th, 2007

Heard about the One Laptop Per Child Project before? Well, between November 12 and 26, they’re having pledges taken for their Give One, Get One program:

For a donation of $399, one XO laptop will be sent to empower a child in a developing nation and one will be sent to the child in your life in recognition of your contribution. $200 of your donation is tax-deductible (your $399 donation minus the fair market value of the XO laptop you will be receiving).

Surely, for those who want to encourage education in developing countries and one’s home, children who would receive this would have opportunities for further development. Who knows? That laptop might be the beginning for them.

Skype 2.0 beta has various Linux packages available for download on their site. :) There’s one for Ubuntu Feisty Fawn too! Hooray~! No need for me to get the rpm and run alien. This means I could install Skype and chat with friends who are using it. Keeping in touch with other people would be nicer now because I could talk with them. I should probably test it this weekend at home, where we have a webcam. I’d probably be on Skype from time to time.
