Learn to edit video using Linux
Linux.com has a fantastic tutorial that teaches you how to edit your videos in Linux. In my opinion, this is an area that Linux has been noticeably behind Apple (and Microsoft) for many years. The tutorial at Linux.com is extremely thorough and covers the following topics: grabbing the video, approaching video editing, combining the pieces, tracks, transitioning, and effects, rendering the result, and authoring the DVD.
As far as convenience goes, Linux may present a sharper learning curve, but this learning curve is worth the trouble. Once you find your way around all the steps, you will feel comfortable using the whole chain. The stability and predictability of the free software, as well as the active community of users and developers, is a huge asset.

Let’s agree that Linux is still a geek’s toy unlike Windows or Mac OS X. Some more Linux has so many various distros. I strongly believe that users need one ultimate Multimedia Linux for these kind of purposes. I have big hopes for Ubuntu Studio at http://ubuntustudio.org
