Launch the screensaver with a shortcut

by Kyle on March 10th, 2007

You can launch your screensaver in GNOME with the touch of a button. I find this really useful if I am ever traveling and find that curious strangers like looking at my laptop. I’ve noticed that people are particularly drawn to looking at Linux screens because it is something they (probably) have never seen before. Setting up your screensaver to launch with the click of a button is really quick:

Open up gconf-editor and assign a shortcut to the following command:

gnome-screensaver-command –activate

Whenever you click your shortcut, the screensaver will start.
