Installing Beryl on a Macbook
I was pleasantly surprised about how easy it was to get Beryl up and running on Ubuntu 7.04 on my G1 Intel Macbook. The process literally takes less than two minutes. I will also include in this tutorial how to get the the resolution changed to 1280×800 and how to get “right-click” functionality.
After you install Ubuntu Feisty follow these steps. Everything can be run in the terminal:
1. sudo apt-get update
2. sudo apt-get install 915resolution
3. CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE (You need to restart X — you will now have a native resolution of 1280×800.)
4. sudo apt-get install beryl beryl-manager emerald
5. beryl-manager (This will start Beryl.)
6. sudo apt-get install mouseemu (This maps the F12 key to simulate a right-click by the mouse.)
That’s it, you’ll now have native resolution, right-click, and Beryl. Enjoy!
