Got some Linux tips you’d like to share?
It’s nice to hear from you. Especially from the poll last month, I’ve read about other distros and how others went about checking out distros until they found “the one” ;) If you have tips or experiences that you’d like to share, you could simply comment on a particular entry or if it’s really a long and detailed guide, I could post it too or if you have a blog, I’d be so glad to link to it! Just let me know what you think. I’m also new when it comes to things like fixing my wifi problems and there are times that I need help too and it’s really going to be an awesome thing to exchange tips and ideas with you. You could also email me through clair.ching AT b5media.com if you feel like dropping a line.

I have a question if that counts. I’m trying to make the switch to Ubuntu mostly cause I’m afraid to update to Vista from XP. The speed and stability is amazing but I am having problems finding substitute programs. I love Windows Live Writer and wanted to know if there was an equivalent or something better out there? What type of blogging software do you use?

Forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea what Windows Live Writer is. But nobody else seems to be replying. So I’d suggest gedit, which comes with Ubuntu, as a fantastic Notepad replacement with way more features, but still fast-loading. For a Microsoft Word replacement, try OpenOffice Writer; that also comes with Ubuntu and is compatible with .doc files.
There is blogging software out there… a quick Synaptic (package manager used to download files) reveals gnome-blog, which is a little applet for the panels, and heaps others.
Hope you go Linux (and as you can see, I heart Ubuntu and would thoroughly recommend it)

Hi, Jyle! I use Blogtk and Logjam. But there are times I just go use the web UI of LJ or Wordpress. I haven’t used LiveWriter yet so I am not sure how different the experience will be like. However, there are a bunch of blog clients out there. You just have to do a quick search on the repositories. But if you’d ask me, Blogtk is quite ok :)
Blahbleh - hey there :) Thanks for replying quickly. In any case, Jyle is looking for a blog client.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I’m going to test out some blog editors this week and let you all know how it went.
I did look for blog editors but nothing seemed to be able to do picture or video inserts. I write http://www.eveningtalk.com and http://www.hiphoproll.com so they require some heavy media embeds at times.
