Gnome quick tip: Connecting to a network share the fast and easy way

by Kyle on May 19th, 2007

Arsgeek put together a nice tutorial that demonstrates how to quickly connect to a shared folder in Gnome.

Try this: hit (gently) the Alt-F2 keys to bring up a Run Application window.

If you’re trying to connect to a server called sarcasm.arsgeek.com and a share named ‘haha’ enter the following:

smb://sarcasm.arsgeek.com/haha

Alternately, if you have an IP address and share name, and that IP was 192.168.0.1, then enter:

smb://192.168.0.1/haha

That’s it, it’s quick and easy. Thanks to Arsgeek for this brief, but helpful tutorial.
