Geeky Fun: CosmoPOD
I’ve been using CosmoPOD a lot lately and I’ve really found it useful.
If you haven’t heard of CosmoPOD, it’s a site where you can get your very own (almost) fully functional KDE desktop. There are a few different ‘online desktops’ out there such as Goowy, but CosmoPOD is much more.
Personally, I use CosmoPOD a lot at work because I can connect to it via the No Machine NX Firefox extension and using it gets me around all the firewall issues I have at work. Now, it’s not perfect - CosmoPOD is slow and I’ve had a lot of problems with KMail in it, but over all it’s pretty good.
There are so many applications available on CosomoPOD that it’s really not a good use of time to go through them all. Rather, go create a free account and check it out for yourself.

Hey Jon,
I can’t find that no machine extension for firefox you mentioned. The IT department where I work limits what I can install on my computer, but maybe the firefox extension will work.

Hey Jeff,
They’ve just changed their site around and the connect is totally different now. After looking around, I think that maybe ‘extension’ isn’t the right word. I’m not sure how to express how it connects.
Anyhow, the way to give it a whirl is to sign up for an account. Log in to it, and then click the desktop icon. A pop up window will appear that will cycle through the connection options. I think the first one (Java applet) is actually what I’m referring to as a Firefox extension, but I’m not sure. I have to get to work to see what’s installed in my FF to be sure.
I know that’s only half-assed help, but that’s all I have right now.
Good luck!
