Geeky Fun: Arch Linux - Take Two!
Some of you may remember me getting my butt kicked a while back when I attempted to install Arch Linux. Pat, from The Linux Link Tech Show, recently sent me a quick email to tell me that he had managed to get suspend working on his laptop running Arch Linux. In the course of conversation, Pat recommended that since I had problems with Arch itself (my fault, not the distro’s), that I might want to take a look at Underground Desktop.
Underground Desktop is a distro based on Arch Linux, but all the tough configuration questions for us newbies have been removed. Although I have yet to download it and try it, it sounds pretty easy. Judland tried it:
…if you’d like to get a base Arch system installed (taking full advantage of its superior stability and easy maintenance), along with KDE 3.5 without having to do much more than decide which hard drive partition to install on and set a root password, then Underground Desktop is the way to go.
Now that sounds like my type of install!
I’m going to try out Underground Desktop tonight and post my findings. Stay tuned…!

Hiya
I really liked the install of Arch, it has all the right steps.
Unfortunately, the Ubuntu installer installed grub on my MBR when I Was trying to get it installed on my partition. Yet, this was because I used XFS and tried to change it to EXT3 (oops!-JFS now) half way through the install at the bootloader install step, and it did the step anyway in some fashion.
Maybe I should get into bug reporting, right?
Glad to read your enjoying arch, good for newbs :)
