Explanation: What Happened to the GNU/Linux User Show?
It’s rather a long story, but the end result is that the last GNU/Linux User Show is posted on my personal blog (link below) rather than on the TPN site. The gory details of what transpired to make the ending of the show so abrupt are also at that link.
I won’t rehash the whole thing here, but to make a long story short - Kelly and I decided to move on from the The Podcast Network and take our show independent. Cam (one of TPN’s founders) took the news rather badly and instead of letting us finish out our last two shows so that we (and our listeners) could have some closure on the show, he immediately locked me out of the The GNU/Linux User Show site. Without even a single email. Extremely bad form in my opinion, but we have to move on.
Our new show will be of a slightly looser format. It’s going to be called Jak AttaK! (yes, with the ! just like Yahoo!) and will feature a lot more of Kelly than the GLUS did. My portion will still be heavily GNU/Linux related and Kelly’s part? Your guess is as good as mine.
Since I can’t get on the TPN site anymore and I know a lot of listeners of the show read this blog as well, I’ll post our final thank-you’s here.
We’ve been doing the show since June of 2005 and (almost) hit 30 shows. It was quite a ride and we had a hell of a good time doing the show. We’ve met so many wonderful people and learned so much that we have absolutely no regrets. Well, that’s not true - we regret not being able to do a final show and tell all of our listeners this ‘in person’. Truly, the GNU/Linux community is full of wonderful people ( and a few cranks, but what community isn’t?) and we’ve been very luck to be able to be a part of it.
Jak AttaK! will come online late next week and we hope you’ll all join us. Much more information on that will follow once the dust settles from this little episode. Being unceremoniously ripped from a community leaves a lot of loose ends to tie up and that’s going to take a few days.
Once again, thank you everyone for listening and we’ll do our best to continue giving you what you want to hear each week on Jak Attak!

Thanks Kyle!
We may have to rethink the show name, as it turns out (http://www.jonwatson.ca/blog/wordpress/?p=845 ), but whatever it’s called, it’s coming soon :)

What ever transpired between you and TPN about the Gnu/Linux User show is not for me to judge. But I would like to mention that I have always enjoyed that show. It was the primary catalyst that made me look into, and ultimately trying Linux. I hope that your new show will pick up where the other left off and continue to be entertaining, informative and trustworthy.

Thanks Jeff, I’m glad you enjoyed the show. The new show will definitely be Linux related and it will have a ‘howto’ type of feel to it (at least my portion will, Kelly…well…probably not!). I don’t think it will be as in depth as the old show, though. The time required to put together a solid show from-install-to-use was one of the reasons why we decided we had to change the format.
It’s important to me to continue delivering new user info though, so that will be a focus of mine, for sure.
