Enlightenment DR17: Oooohhhh… shiny!

by George Bunyan on October 18th, 2006

For those of you who don’t know about the enlightenment project it is a window manage for Linux. The current release DR16 is soon to be superseded by DR17, which is a massive step up. I have used DR16 happily on older computers with great results, but I want to talk about e17.

Although the main site is down Get-E.org is a pretty good resource site. To compile the *EXPERIMENTAL* e17 (yes, it can screw up) is a very long winded process and is outside the scope of this article, however installing from binaries can be relatively painless.

To install under Ubuntu dapper/edgy repositories exist, as detailed here at Get-E.org.

FC5 users have the luxury of this yum repository.

I dug this up for SUSE users.

I have yet to find something that isn’t included in the Gentoo wiki.

Wow! Binary packages for slackware!
I never knew such things existed ;)

Hmmmm… maybe I should have dropped the resolution before the screen shot.

I hope you find enlightenment!
