Testing Drivel

Right now I am typing this blog entry using Drivel, a blog client for Linux. It could connect to my LJ account as well as this blog of mine. I know that Drivel existed since I started using Linux but I recall not being able to post properly on my WordPress-powered blogs so […]

Funny and amazing Big Buck Bunny

I’ve only seen Big Buck Bunny is YouTube but I think it’s really amazing! I like the way the fluff of the bunny was shown and the smooth flight of butterfly as well. I also love the way they made the shadows and other stuff. All that was done using Blender, an […]

Playing mkv files is as easy as 1-2-3 with VLC and Mplayer

I got a video in the Matroska file format — something that doesn’t usually happen to me. I would often get files in avi though. Or mpeg. I know I used to watch anime with mkv extensions but recently I haven’t. I did a fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy Heron so I didn’t […]

Another Linux distro to checkout: Sidux

I’ve found something interesting tonight. It’s sidux. Basically Debian Sid + KDE (or Fluxbox) without much tweaks and modifications. It’s said to have a good user manual too so that’s one thing I’d like to see. :D

It […]

Switch on your appliances using Linux

Free Software Magazine has an informative article giving us an overview of how to automate appliances in your own home. I know of people who would like something like this. I watched one of the sequels of Home Alone and there was one where they had a remote control which basically switched or […]

Download YouTube videos

Hey, Timelady! I owe you once again for this awesome link to download YouTube videos. I hardly download videos on YouTube so this set of tools would be great.
I like TubeLeecher and KissYouTube. It’s easy to just remember the URLs of those two tools.
I am not sure if there are any other YouTube […]

There are times when I find Compiz quite nifty

In particular, I really like two things about Compiz. One is the preview of the windows I have open when switching from one workspace to another or from one app to another. The other is the magnification of the screen when I press Alt +1 (or 2 or 3). I find it […]

Plurk client on Linux?

I have only been recently introduced to Plurk and I haven’t been plurking as much as my buddies. Probably because I have stuff to work on and there’s nothing much to plurk about.
In any case, for those of you who don’t know Plurk yet, it’s this nifty thing that lets you post your thoughts […]

Linux robot play the clarinet

There are students from NICGA and the University of NSW who made a clarinet that could be operated by a computer. The description of the robot is that there’s an embedded computer that is connected to brass plungers with rubber nylon feet to control the keys and mouthpiece of the internet. They used […]
