BLOG NEWS: Interesting Stats.
Now that New Linux User has been up and running for about three weeks, we’ve had some time to amass some stats. Some of which are kind of interesting (I think).
I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk visitors, but I suspect that Jeremy, Duncan, and Darren won’t mind. But to be safe, let’s just say that we just started consistently hitting over 1,000 page views within the last week. Not too shabby.
It looks like 20 of our top 37 referrers is some flavour of Google (.ca, .com, .ro, .no, etc). I find this particularly interesting because this site has a Google page rank of zero right now, yet we still show up in the first 5 or 10 hits for a lot of the Linux queries.
Out of the top 37 search engine queries that brought people to this site, the top string was ‘iwconfig’. This goes to show how many people are trying to get wifi running on their GNU/Linux boxes. 20 of the remaining queries have something to do with how to deal with .deb files, and a lot of those are specifically searching for information on .deb files and Ubuntu. I chalk most of this up to the current popularity of Ubuntu. The last most popular query is back to wifi. There are four or five consistently repeating queries for some variation of ndsiwrapper and iwconfig.
I’m encouraged by these results. The mass of Google referrers even with a zero page rank shows that the titles and content of my posts are doing their job and I’m hitting the people I want hit. The mission is to get information that is typically difficult for the new user out there in the wild, and I think it’s working so far.
So, thanks for reading and don’t be shy to suggest topics for me to cover. I’ve always got three or four simmering on the back burner, but I can always add more.
Thanks!
