Welcome Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon!

I’ve actually been using the beta version and have yet to upgrade. In any case, welcome Gutsy! I expect that the desktops in the office will be upgraded within the next two weeks. At least half of the desktop machines in the office are running Ubuntu and our interns don’t seem to have […]

Meta-what? Metapackages!

First time I heard about the metapackage was when I installed Ubuntu on a colleague’s machine then she told she wanted the pretty stuff on Kubuntu. I installed KDE on her machine then my colleague told me it wasn’t quite the same as the previous version she used. Apparently I should have installed […]

Not quite happy with Wammu

I installed Wammu the other day, after looking for some tools.
I didn’t quite like it because I could only download contacts and no calendar and no messages either. But I could actually sync the to-do list with it. Hrmmm. It’s not quite what I thought it would be so OpenSync might be an option. […]

Linux XP?

It’s my first time to encounter Linux XP online today.
If you take a look at it, it might seem like a joke because of the name and the features. But it might be real. Somebody ping me on this. I really find it weird why people would still try to make Linux […]

GJiten - Wanna learn Kanji? This is the tool to install. You could do a […]

Samba, OpenSUSE 10.3 and Windows XP

I am not really an OpenSUSE user but release 10.3 got me more interested in it. Anyhow, I saw a how-to on using Samba in OpenSUSE 10.3 and it looks like it would be useful for anyone who’s planning to use it. It has a detailed step-by-step guide with screencaps so you wouldn’t […]

Consider These When You Dual boot Linux and Windows

Here are some things I learned about dual booting Linux and Windows:
Install Windows first.
This made me and my friend panic because we didn’t know what was going on. Turns out that GRUB took over the bootloader. You might have difficulty dealing with that if you don’t have a more experienced Linux user with […]

Yay! Linux on the desktop doubles

Though it may seem a small number, the number of Linux users has increased. A survey says that Linux has a .81% market share these days compared to its former .37% market share.
According to statistics provided by Market Share by Net Applications, starting in December 2006 and through September 2007, Linux doubled its market share. […]
