I remember when I first used linux I was baffled by the amazingly strange file structure. usr, opt, proc, what do they mean?
Although I never looked it up and learnt it as I went along I think many things would have been clearer if I had.

I stumbled across this article earlier that gives a good look at the /proc pseudo filesystem.
The contents of /proc can be safely ignored if you want to but for the more curious it can be very interesting.

This page gives a guide to the various different linux pronunciations. I use the second version, ‘linnuks’, however most people I know say ‘lynuks’. Don’t worry, if like me you cannot decipher pronunciation keys it includes audio clips for the different pronunciations!
