KDE vs. Gnome

I noticed this pop up on digg, and I decided I just had to link through. A clean objective comparison between Gnome & KDE.
For a long time I had it in my head that Gnome is slow, that was until I actually used it. Now I never even touch KDE…
On a side note I don’t […]

YubNub as firefox adress bar

Although this is not only for linux, it should appeal to budding terminal users. YubNub is billed as ‘a (social) command line for the web’, and essentialy it allows to use different services through different commands, for example the command gim tux will search google images for tux.
First of all type in about:config in the […]

Savage: Free gaming goodness

I spent most of yesterday ‘testing’ Savage: The Battle For Newerth.
I am not here to tell you about the game, I am here to get you playing it.

Back to ubuntu

After a short jaunt with sabayon, I have come running back to ubuntu. I feel this is best explained.

Most notably it comes with XGL out of the box, if that is your desire, and from that it only follows that it contains […]

XQF game server browser

I have always found inbuilt server browsers very lacking, so I was very excited when I stumbled over the XQF server browser. It supports most of the usual suspects, as well as one or two wine games. This is a must have for any linux gamer.
EDIT: D’oh, forgot the link

Howto install a GNOME theme

Devilishly simple yet not so apparent, once you have downloaded a theme drag it to the theme switcher window and it will be installed.

Finding what package owns a file

One thing you will likely encounter is an unknown file with no manpage.
Fortunately tools such as dpkg-query and rpm exist.
You can use these to find out which package owns a file, for example
dpkg-query -S /bin/bash
bash: /bin/bash
The example above uses dpkg-query to find out which package installed the file /bin/bash, which, surprise surprise, is the bash […]

Scribes install

Part of me forgot that scribes was a python app, so this will be very short.
First of all download the scribes tarball from there site. Then extract the tarball with a tar xvzf scribes-0.2.5.tar.gz.
Now all that you need to do is cd into the directory it was extracted to, and then run sudo python setup.py […]
