Damn Small Linux is a pretty neat-o little project. It brings together two things I love: GNU/Linux and portable apps.
Portable applications are versions of full-blown applications that can be installed on removable media (usually a USB stick) and carried with you wherever you go. I’ve been dabbling in portable apps for a while, and have […]

Yes, I know that I can use ‘viruses’ instead of ‘virii’, but I prefer the latter. It makes me feel all academic or something.
We’ve just put up JaK Attack! show #5 (with Webcast!). In it, Kelly and I briefly discuss the January edition of Linux Magazine. For the record, this is the European Linux Magazine […]

There’s an interesting article over on Linux Insider today about Linux certifications. I guess for the first time, a Linux certification has topped the list of important certifications for 2006 over at CertCities. As far as I know there are only three solid GNU/Linux certifications out there. The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) levels 1 through […]

I was looking through the Linux Questions Newbie Forum this morning and came across this great tip. I originally looked at the post because the user was asking how to restart the X server after he had changed his display resolution without rebooting the whole box. Of course we all know how to do that, […]

Sorry posts have been a little sparse around here this week. I’ve been on vacation. I time-bombed a few posts to show up while I was gone, but sadly they ran out two days ago. Things will pick up shortly after I wade through my 178 emails…

I know by now that this is hardly news, but Google is working with Code Weavers to produce a GNU/Linux version of Picasa.
I have a number of thoughts about this. First, about Picasa itself. My fiancee is an Interior Designer and as such has an absolute truckload of images on her computer. She uses a […]

I’ve spent the better part of last year moving all of my day to day activities online. I’ve found that storing stuff like my email, RSS feeds, and documents on a single computer to be too limiting. I use three or four different computers on a daily basis and I like to have access to […]

I’m on the road until later next week (back around the 23-25th). I’ve time-bombed a few entries to show up on next week, but all in all posting will be a little slim around here for the next week.
Go do some cool stuff with GNU/Linux to keep you busy and report back here :)

I’m not sure how interesting this is to read as a blog entry, but I imagine it will be useful for people that are Googling for the GNU/Linux file structure later on.
So…um…yeah, here it is: The GNU/Linux File Structure. I doubt this is exactly the same on all distros, but they’re all probably quite close.
